Marine Scientist, Ecological Management & Conservation Biologist
Michael has had an interest in aquatic ecology all his life, keeping fish for most of his life. He decided he wanted to further his academic knowledge of Marine ecosystems as well as discover more about conservation.

He completed his Marine Science bachelors degree at the University of Ulster upon completing this he then moved on to completing a Masters Degree in Ecological Management and Conservation Biology as well as publishing a paper in regards to the impact caused by invasive species, in non native ecosystems, giving him a unique perspective on how the aquatic trade impacts local ecosystems.
Experience
He left this role for an actuarial role in which he learnt a lot of data modelling, manipulation and analysis which is transferable to allow for accurate sales modelling understanding trends in market and prediction of how the market will move. While working at this company he set up his own business Manta Reas in which he supplied, installed and maintained ponds and aquariums, this has allowed him to forge relationships with suppliers as well as create a reputation of high quality work within the greater fish keeping community in NI and Ireland.
Life Aquatic
When completing his degree he was working as a section manager at what will be one of the main competitors, Maidenhead aquatics. This provides a unique market advantage as he understands their company model and pricing structures lists of suppliers.
In Mike’s spare time
While also becoming the sole sponsor of the largest Facebook group for fish-keeping in Northern Ireland. He has also worked with the local councils of Northern Ireland and Queens University Belfast In rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming Turtles that have been dumped into the wild. Along with turtles he has kept a host of herpetological animals, ranging from snakes right through to large monitors.
